Day 21- Tarkio, Missouri
We started our first day back on the road with some crazy adventures. First we drove to far on Highway 44 and went past our turn. If we hadn`t of taken that little detour then we wouldn`t of seen the largest fireworks store in Missouri. There are tons of fireworks stands, stores, & outlets in this state. On our drive, we saw many soybean fields (we even saw a farmer harvesting his field with a combined), lots of "share the road with Amish" signs, crazy license plates and beautiful trees. Our next adventure was to the library in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The outside of the library is awesome and thats all we saw of it. Its pretty much impossible to find a parking spot. I liked seeing the steps leading up to the library which are in the shape of books. All around the library district, there are beautiful older buildings, artwork, and statues. So getting out of the city was a whole new adventure in itself. We got a little lost and little irritated with each other but finally made it out alive. The next highway that we were on was Hwy 29 which led to our last and final adventure for the day. The State Park that we were planning to camp at was full then the highway ended up being closed at Rock Port because of all the flooding. We were sent on a detour to a small two lane road in the dark. Luckily after a few attempts to find a motel that had vacancy, we found a little Ma & Pop place called "Big T Motel" in Tarkio. The motel is cute, small, and clean. Oh and it also has "in case of tornado" disaster instructions posted at the room door. (It says that we will hear one steady pitch if a tornado is coming. If we hear that then take shelter in the bathroom or shower while using pillows/blankets to cover ourselves with.) All in all this has just been another crazy day on the road but we did see a beautiful sunset and Papa`s happy to sleep his first night in a real bed (he has been sleeping on a small mat in the bathrooms because of his snoring).
