Day 23 - Rapid City, South Dakota
Today we traveled through part of rainy South Dakota. In one town (Chamberline), Papa wanted to stop for lunch. Part of the highway I-90 business loop was closed because of the flooding. The town lies near the Missouri River which is the same river that we had been detoured away from on Highway 29. Crazy!! We decided to high tail it out of there and get across the bridge. Luckily the main I-90 Highway bridge was not closed and we made it across. One of our fun stops was Wall Drugs in Wall, SD. Its a great place to get cheap coffee, look at corny souvenirs, and laugh loudly. In fact, I couldn`t stop laughing at the "Potato Guns". The instructions said that you had to press the gun into a potato, snap a trigger, pull the gun away from the potato, then finally shoot this small piece of potato at a target. I laughed and said wouldn`t it be quicker to just chuck the potato. Papa laughed, I laughed, and some other people around us laughed. As we left Wall Drugs and got closer to Rapid City, the colder it got. Papa was freezing and he couldn`t wait to get his long pants & tennis shoes on. When we arrived it was 46 degrees and little windy. We are happy to be landed and have decided to stay in a motel tonight. Tomorrow we will head for Mt. Rushmore & Crazy Horse.
